Marcus W. Ramer, 75, of Nappanee, died at his home early Thursday afternoon, July 3, 2008. He had Parkinson’s disease for 15 years and had suffered a stroke on June 22. He was born in Nappanee on August 25, 1932, to Isaiah and Penola (Witmer) Ramer. He married Carrie Martin on June 5, 1955 in Goshen. She survives. A resident of the Goshen and Nappanee area all of his life, Mr. Ramer was a farmer and former owner of Ramer’s Repair Service from which he retired in 1995 after 28 years. He was a member of the Wisler Mennonite church where he was baptized in his youth. He served on the Foraker Fire Department for 24 years and enjoyed fishing, especially with his family. He is survived by his wife, Carrie; five daughters, Kathleen (Charles) Ramer and Jula (Roy) Rodes, both of New Paris, Connie (Enos) Rodes of Syracuse, Karla (Burnett) Martin of Bremen, and Angela (Nelson) Nolt of Unity, Wisconsin; five sons, Darrell (Rachel) Ramer of Cazenovia, Wisconsin, Nelson (Laura) Ramer of Nappanee, Dwight Ramer of Ligonier, Lyle (Barb) Ramer of Snover, Michigan, and Travis Ramer at home; three foster children, Jerry (Tammy) Miller of Fort Wayne, Greg Wetzel of Decker, Michigan and Paulette Tramble of Dublin, Georgia; 39 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; three sisters, Lois (Truman) Martin of Nappanee, Esther Graybill of Flora, Indiana, and Viola (Leonard) Hartman of Gallopolis, Ohio; and three brothers, Amos (Martha) Ramer of New Paris, Robert (Erma) Ramer of Goshen, and David (Marceil) Ramer of Coudrey, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter. Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the family home, 24517 CR 44, Nappanee, where a 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 7 prayer service will be conducted before moving to the church for the funeral service. A 10:00 a.m., funeral service will be conducted at the Wisler Mennonite Church on the corner of CR 38 and CR 11 in Goshen, on Monday, July 7, 2008. Home Ministry will officiate. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Frame Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
