Mahlon E. Bontrager, 86, of Goshen, died early Wednesday morning, November 7, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare after an extended illness. He was born August 20, 1926 in Shipshewana to Edward and Mabel (Hostetler) Bontrager. He is survived by four children, Steve Bontrager and Sally Barringer, both of Goshen, Melvin Bontrager of Shanks, West Virginia and Mabel (Robert) Goyer of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura (Ivan) Smucker of Wisconsin, and Elizabeth (Irvin) Nisley of Topeka. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nona Bontrager and Anna Miller; a brother, Melvin E. Bontrager; and a son-in-law, J.R. Barringer. A longtime area resident, Mr. Bontrager was a member of Trinity Holiness Tabernacle. He enjoyed nature and watching sports. He worked at Standard Plating for 25 years in shipping and receiving. He also worked a number of years at American Laundry, Goshen. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where a 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 10, 2012, funeral service will be conducted. Pastor Mike Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
