Lydia B. Hawkins

Lydia B. Hawkins, 82, of Goshen, died Saturday, July 31,, 2010 at Greencroft Healthcare. She was born in Topeka on December 15, 1927, to Daniel C. and Polly (Stutzman) Borntrager.  She married Carel L. Hawkins on April 19, 1947, in Goshen.  He died August 21, 2002. A lifetime area resident, she graduated from Topeka High School and regularly attended Grace Community Church, Goshen.  She worked as a secretary for Dome Pipeline and Pine Manor. She is survived by a daughter, Debra (Floyd) Houin of Plymouth; three sons, James (Brenda) Hawkins and Jerry (Cindy) Hawkins, both of Goshen, and John Hawkins of Middlebury; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Norma) Bontrager; a step-mother, Lena Suderman Slabach Borntrager; two half brothers, Robert and Stan Borntrager; and four step-brothers, Wilbur, Lloyd, Wayne and Glen Slabach. Friends may call 10 to 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where an 11:30 a.m., memorial service will be conducted.  Pastor Jim Brown of Grace Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen, following cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or donor's choice.
