Lurmae Yoder, 93, of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Courtyard Healthcare where she had been the last three years.
She was born December 7, 1922 in Wellman, Iowa to Eugene and Alta (Chapman) Slead.
She graduated from Wellman High School in 1940. On March 27, 1943 she married Delmar D. Yoder in Kahoka, Missouri. He died January 30, 2007.
She had lived in Goshen since 1947, coming from Galesburg, Illinois.
Along with her husband, they owned and operated Goshen Plumbing and Heating from 1952 to 1982. Following retirement, Lurmae and Delmar visited all 50 states and traveled more than 400,000 miles in their RV.
Mrs. Yoder also taught in a one room school for a year and worked as a cook at Goshen College from 1975 to 1982.
She was a member of Eighth Street Mennonite Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Meyers of Goshen; a daughter-in-law, Christine Yoder of Clermont, Florida; five grandchildren, Katherine (Perry) Baert, Betsy Stansbury, Tony (Kelli) Meyers, both of Goshen, Stephanie Stidd and Christine Boone; nine great-grandchildren, including Sara Stansbury, Cameron Baert and Kaleb Rockwell; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Sherry Brasher of Coal Valley, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a son, Dennis; three sisters, Marjorie Jones, Joanne Griffith and Betty Starr and a brother, Kenneth Slead.
Friends may call Saturday, September 10, 2016, one hour prior to the 10 a.m., memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral. Pastors Brenda Sawatzky-Paetkau and Julia Gingrich, of Eighth Street Mennonite Church, will officiate.
Burial of cremated remains will follow in West Goshen Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Eighth Street Mennonite Church or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
