Luis Andres Francisco, 47, passed away Thursday, July 10 in Goshen, Indiana. He was born on March 15, 1967 in San Miguel Acatan, a small village in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. As a young teen, Luis left his home with other members of his village to escape civil war, and after several years he made his way to the United States. In 1985 he was sponsored by Assembly Mennonite Church in Goshen, where he became an active member of the youth group and congregation. He graduated from Bethany Christian High School in 1992. After graduation Luis spent a number of years working at Camp Friedenswald, Cassopolis, MI, where he enjoyed relating with the children at the camp and working with the maintenance team. In 2000 he moved to Philadelphia, PA and worked as a general contractor in building maintenance and construction, and in a family coffeehouse business called The Green Line Cafe. He returned to Goshen in 2013. Luis was considered a son by Timothy and Margaret Thut of Goshen, with whom he was living at the time of his death. His family includes Daniel and Karla Hernandez Thut, Philadelphia, Rebecca and Douglas Thut Witmer, Philadelphia, and Amy Thut and Gregory Imbur, Goshen. Luis was known for his easy smile, warm personality, and kindness towards others. He especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He loved listening to music, movies, and a good cup of coffee. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 13, at 2 pm at Assembly Mennonite Meetinghouse, 1201 South 11th Street, Goshen. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
