Lucinda A. “Cindy” Peterson, 88, of Goshen, died Wednesday afternoon, May 10, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital Emergency Room. She had been in declining health the past two years. She was born June 20, 1917, in Decatur, Indiana, to Christena Borne and was raised, along with five cousins, by her grandmother. On May 31, 1941, in Troy, Ohio, she married Ralph Peterson. He died June 7, 1983. A 1936 graduate of Decatur High School, she owned and operated The Chief in Goshen for over 30 years. She also worked from General Electric in both Decatur and Fort Wayne, Goshen Proof Company and Penn Controls, retiring in 1979. A member of the First United Church of Christ since 1947, she had served as a deaconess, secretary for the trustee’s, and was a member of the Women’s Guild. Mrs. Peterson is survived by two daughters, Linda Orr of Peru, Indiana, and Sandra (Rolland) Eby of Elkhart; a daughter-in-law, Jeanine Peterson of Frankfort, Indiana; a son, Jack (Cindy) Peterson of Syracuse; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; and a son, Ralph C. Peterson, II, on December 27, 2004. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 12, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the funeral home. A 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2006, funeral will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Adams of First United Church of Christ, Goshen, will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
