Lucille Mae Swartzendruber, age 100, of Goshen, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Greencroft.
She was born October 10, 1925, in Goshen, Indiana, to Christian L. and Mina Amanda (Roth) Graber. On May 3, 1949, she married Harold Leon Swartzendruber in Goshen.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well her loving husband, Harold; two sons, David and Steven Swartzendruber; four sisters, Areta Lehman, Gladys Beyler, Mildred Stoltzfus, and Lois Bender and one brother, Richard Graber.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Janet Reid of Waynesboro, Virginia, and her son, James (Tina) Swartzendruber of Albion, Indiana; along with two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
A 1947 graduate of Goshen College with a degree in Home Economics, Lucille later returned to school and earned her master’s degree in social work. She devoted her life to caring for others through her work as a social worker, as well as in her roles as a homemaker and piano teacher. She was also a longtime member of College Mennonite Church and a member of Life Springs Church.
Her gentle spirit and steady presence touched many lives across the generations.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at College Mennonite Church, Koinonia Room, in Goshen, Indiana, with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will follow at Violett Cemetery.
