Mary Lucille Long, 94, of Goshen, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 while on hospice at her home.
She was born November 25, 1928 in Goshen to Roy and Jessie (Cripe) Kenaga. On November 6, 1945, she married William J. Long of Goshen.
He survives along with children, Patricia (James) Mote, Union City, James (Cherrill) Long, Goshen; step-grandchild, Ellen Bunker, Sidney, Ohio; grandchildren, Jessica Lincicome, Wichita, Kansas, Betsey Graber, Goshen; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Lucille loved music. She was proficient in voice, piano, cello, and trombone. She graduated from Goshen High School and gave piano lessons in the early years of her marriage. She was a member of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren and served as an organist and choir director.
She went into business with her husband Bill as he began to sell real estate and build homes. She was owner/partner of Bill Long and Associates Century 21. While in real estate she gained the accredited designation of GRI, CRS, and CRB.
A pioneering woman in business, she became president of the Goshen Board of Realtors, a director of the Indiana Association of Realtors, and president of the Indiana Chapter of CRS. She was a director of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce for 6 years including a year as board chair. She was a member of the Elkhart County Board of Zoning Appeals, also serving as chair, the Goshen City Board of Zoning Appeals, and as a trustee for the Goshen Public Library. Lucille was also a former board member of Oaklawn Psychiatric Center, the Goshen Hospital Foundation, and a director of the First National Bank of Goshen serving on its trust committee.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 24 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral on Thursday, May 25 all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
