Lowell “Bud” Strycker, 84, of Goshen, died early Saturday morning, June 20, 2009, at Greencroft Healthcare where he had been a patient since June 1. He was born in Wakarusa, Indiana, on December 28, 1924, to Mervin and Inez (Smeltzer) Strycker. He married Dorothy L. Tolliver on august 9, 1947, in Cumberland, Kentucky. She survives. A Goshen resident since 1947, Mr. Strycker served with the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific on the USS Herman earning 9 Battle Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in February 1946. He worked as an inspector at Goshen Rubber for 42 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Goshen and volunteered as a Red Coat at Goshen General Hospital. He was a blood donor for the Red Cross for 15 years. He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Geraldine Lambert and June (Junior) Harter, both of Wakarusa; two brothers, Mervin L. (Mary) Strycker of Osceola and Larry (Faye) Strycker of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Strycker and two brothers, Lamar and Dale Strycker. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 22 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Brooks Henry and Rev. Jim Shrock of First Baptist Church, Goshen will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or Salvation Army.
