Lorraine F. Smith

Lorraine F. Smith, 87, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Goshen, died Friday, February 23, 2018 at Coventry Meadows Assisted Living where she had been since 2007.

She was born April 27, 1930 in Flint, Michigan to Pearl M. and Ruth (Francis) Chapman.

On September 2, 1950 she married Donald L. Smith in Flint, Michigan.  He died April 22, 2009.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Harry) Metzger of Bronson, Michigan and Bonita (Dr. Albert) Cornelius of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sons, Donald (Susan) Smith Jr. and Dr. David (Carolyn) Smith, both of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a sister, Phyllis (Walter) McLavy of Mt. Morris, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Donald David Smith and a brother, Lawrence Chapman.

Mrs. Smith earned her bachelor’s degree from Goshen College and her master’s degree from IUSB.  She taught 2nd grade at Chamberlain Elementary School, Goshen, from 1967 to 1993.

She was an active member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.

Friends may call Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church.  Pastor Harold Knight will officiate.

Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the church.
