Lori S. Lindzy, 59, of Elkhart died Monday, April 30, 2018 at her home.
She was born March 1, 1959 in Elkhart to Delbert and Loretta (Flowers) Mast.
On April 22, 1995 she married Jim Lindzy in Middlebury.
He survives along with her mother, Loretta Mast of Goshen; mother-in-law, Dorothy Lindzy of Goshen; sister, Rebecca Biers of New Mexico; children, ReAnna (Jorge) Lindzy of Goshen, Christopher Lindzy of Michigan City, and David Lindzy of South Bend; numerous nieces and nephews, including Christine Gavin of New Mexico; and 14 grandchildren, Kyle, Zach, Kylie, David and C.J., Tyler and Caitlyn, Analene, Isabela, Anthony and Abbey, and Angelo, Arie and Genny.
Along with her father, she was preceded in death by a beloved son, Travis Tyson; infant daughter, Lori; brother, Victor Mast; twin brother, Gregory Mast; and nephew, Trevor Frangis.
Lori will be missed by so many people she has met over the years.
She retired in March from Greencroft, Goshen after 20 years of service. She was facility coordinator at Manor 4. Prior to this a C.N.A, Q.M.A., and unit secretary in healthcare.
Lori was a hard worker all her life. She worked two to three jobs to support herself and son Travis. She would say her retirement was marrying Jim and only having to work one job.
She had so many loves. She loved animals and nature, camping and traveling, with Gulf Shores, Alabama and the Great Smoky Mountains as favorite stops. She loved the water and was drawn to it. She was able to go on a cruise to the Caribbean and be surrounded by nothing but water.
Her major loves were her children, grandchildren, friends and family. She loved “People”. She never said a bad word about anyone, unless they needed it. She did not back down to anything, including cancer.
She loved cooking, as noted by husband’s weight gain, and especially baking, with pies being her specialty. She loved to learn new recipes and try various ethnic foods with Indian her favorite. “She never met a pie she didn’t like.”
One of her loves was gardening, vegetable and especially flowers. She would always bring home a new plant to try. A frustration for her was the inability to garden as much over the past few years, as it became increasingly difficult for her.
She loved to laugh and just have fun with family and friends.
Lori loved her Native American heritage as well as all the other nationalities in her lineage. She would say “muts” make the best pets and people.
She was an avid reader, normally picking a book before television or a movie, or most anything else.
She was also a teacher. Lori would pass on any knowledge she had to anyone and especially her grandchildren.
Lori’s spirit will be released to walk through the Western Door to be with all her friends and family who will be awaiting her on May 3rd.
A Celebration of her life (party that she asked for) will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Elkhart, 1732 Garden St., Elkhart, on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 2 p.m.
