Lori Laber, 68, of Middlebury, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado on September 30, 1939, to Alex and Esther (Schleiger) Koch. She married Ed Laber on June 1, 1958 in Denver, Colorado. He survives. A Middlebury resident since 1993, Mrs. Laber worked as a secretary for school systems in Illinois and Michigan. She was a member of First Mennonite Church in Middlebury where she was a Stephen’s Minister. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and was a active in GAIN (Global Aid Network), Transworld Radio and CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship). She is survived by her husband, Ed; three daughters, Tami (Tim) Calhoun of St. Joseph, Michigan, Tobin (Michael) Schwerin of Humble, Texas, and Kris (Mark) Malin of Creve Coeur, Illinois; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Laber; a brother, Ray Koch; and a sister, Pat Stricker. Friends may call 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 3, at First Mennonite Church in Middlebury. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2008, at the church. Pastors Linford Martin, Pamela Yoder and Daniel Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in Foothills Cemetery, Longmont, Colorado. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Goshen Center for Cancer Research Institute.
