Loren Alan Stauffer

Loren Stauffer, who was employed for 31 years at Goshen College in a variety of administrative positions including staff personnel manager and manager of the bookstore, died at his home at Greencroft Retirement Communities in Goshen, Ind., on July 28, 2026. He was 88 years old.

He graduated from Bethany Christian High School, attended Goshen College and graduated from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, Bloomington, with a degree in personnel management.

Following retirement from Goshen College, Loren was instrumental in opening the Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County ReStore and managed it for five years. In retirement he delivered trucks across the country, covering over 168,000 miles in about 14 years.

Loren was born in Elkhart County, Ind., to Earl and Frances Stauffer on June 20, 1938. In 1971, he married Miriam Martin. They had three children: Greg, Lisa and Ryan.

Prior to college he spent two years in Voluntary Service under Mennonite Board of Missions (now Mennonite Mission Network) in Arizona, Colorado and Kansas doing masonry work at construction sites. He and Miriam also volunteered with Mennonite Mission Network in San Antonio, Texas; and Glendale and Tucson, Ariz.

In his retirement years at Greencroft, Loren enjoyed volunteering weekly at the Habitat ReStore, working in the woodshop making shadow boxes with Route 66 scenes and assisting Miriam with blue bird nestings.

He also enjoyed bicycling with Miriam and a group of friends along the Pumpkinvine Trail and other rails-to-trails paths. Their bike group went on several overseas biking trips along rivers in France, Luxembourg and Germany.

Surviving family includes three children: Greg (Camille) Stauffer, Broomfield, Colo.; Lisa (Todd) Mayen, Bailey, Colo.; and Ryan (Caitlin) Stauffer, Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren, Olivia, Jackson “Jack”, Larkin “Ry” and Finnegan “Finn” Stauffer.

Loren was predeceased by his wife, Miriam; his mother, Frances, and father, Earl; his brother, Norman; and his first wife, Shirley.

He was a founding member of Waterford Mennonite Church where he served as an elder and also a volunteer for many construction and remodeling projects.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Waterford Mennonite Church.
