Lora L. Slapak

Lora L. Slapak, 71, of Goshen, died early Monday morning, September 4, 2006, at Americare Living Center.    She was born February 13, 1935, in Dayton, Ohio, to William and Era (Durr) Harrington.  She married James C. Slapak on August 30, 1986 in Goshen.  He died December 27, 1990.   A Goshen resident since 1967, Mrs. Slapak retired in 1998 from Lassus Bros. in Middlebury, where she was the convenient store manager.  She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #30 and VFW Post #985.  She loved to read and enjoyed bowling and writing.   Mrs. Slapak is survived by three daughters, Yutonia “Toni” Ferguson and Valerie (Kenny Carner) Abney, both of Goshen, and Dwanna (Billy Lane) Marchand of Ligonier, Indiana; a son, Fred (Cindy) Abney of Goshen, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and a brother Thomas Edward Buck.   Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 6, at the funeral home.   An 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 6, 2006.  Rev. Kenneth Rogers of the Faith Christian Center, Goshen, will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be designated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
