Lola O. Askew, 78, of Elkhart, passed away at her home Wednesday morning, July 15, 2015. She was born March 18, 1937 in Florence, Alabama to Sam and Robbie (Ragan) Young. On March 8, 1953 she married Homer Askew in Iuka, Mississippi. He died August 10, 2003. Survivors include three children, Stella A. Askew and Gary W. Askew, both of Elkhart and Eddie Leon (Toni) Askew of Goshen; four grandchildren, Stephanie, La Breeska, Eddie and Nick; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Breken, Savonnah and Summer; three sisters, Margarite (Joel) Wright, Mary (Lloyd) Clemmons and Nell (Jerry) Warren, all of Florence, Alabama; and a brother, Tom (Sue) Young of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Sam Young, Jr. An area resident since 1953, Mrs. Askew worked at Bayer, retiring after 30 years. Known for her hospitality, Mrs. Askew enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching and collecting cookbooks. Friends may call Friday, July 17, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where an 11 a.m. funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 181, 2015 Rev. Jack Rorie of The Sanctuary will officiate. Burial will in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana or Center for Hospice Care.
