Lois Erb Shaum, 91, of Goshen, died early Sunday morning, December 13, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. She was born in Beemer, Nebraska, on May 2, 1918 to the late Joseph and Sarah (Birky) Eichelberger.   She married Menno Erb in Beemer, Nebraska, on May 21, 1937.  He died October 19, 1960.  On February 8, 1970, she then married Vernon Shaum in Benton, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on June 26, 1986. Mrs. Shaum was a member of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church where she taught Bible School, Sunday School and served as a leader of Bible Study Fellowship.  A graduate of Beemer High School, she accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized in the Plum Creek Mennonite Church in Beemer. A homemaker, she is survived by three daughters, Karen (Homer) Schmucker of Milford, Indiana, Phyllis (Keith) King of Kouts, Indiana, and Eunice (tom) Culp, of Goshen; three sons, Larry (Sharon) Erb and Lonnie (Linda) Erb, both of Benton, Indiana, and Ralph (Marianne) Erb of Leesburg, Florida; five step-daughters, Shirley (Gene) Stutzman of Kendalville, Indiana, Joyce (Gene) Blucker of Nappanee, Charlene (Keith) Vincent of Safety Harbor, Florida, Wanda Wenger of Wakarusa, Indiana, and Sue (Tom) Detwiler of Goshen; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn (Rolland) Oswald of Beemer, Nebraska; and a brother, Clifford (Lucille) Eichelberger of Nampa, Idaho. She was preceded in death by a sister, Erna Rediger and a brother, Harold Eichelberger. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 16 and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 17, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastors Wes Bontreger and Katie Cunningham of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, Goshen, will officiate. Burial will be in Benton Lutheran Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Memory Ministries.
