Lois Slater Shanklin Lange

Lois Slater Shanklin Lange, 97, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, May 10, 2006, at Greencroft Healthcare. She was born February 16, 1909 in Boone County, Indiana, to James Ira and Sarah “Sadie” (Roark).  On May 28, 1926 she married Merle Shanklin.  He died November 6, 1955.  She married Edward H. Lange on October 15, 1966.  He died April 24, 1984.   A long time resident of the area, Mrs. Lange worked as an optometric assistant to Drs. Wellington for 28 years, retiring in 1971.   She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a 61 year member of the Women’s Club of Goshen, where she was a Past President.  She was also a member of the old Goshen Neighborly Service; the old GYRAB Board; the William Tuffe Chapter, Past Regent; the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century; the Goshen Historical Society; and the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.   She is survived by several nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her husbands, a son John William in 1973 and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann in 1934.   Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, May 12, at the funeral home.   A 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2006, funeral will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Robert Shreiner will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen.
