Lois Ardell Ramseyer

January 5, 1919 — January 19, 2013

Lois A. Ramseyer, 94, of Goshen, was the 6th child born to Allen W. and Anna Inez (Shupe) Kuhns on January 5, 1919 at Harper, Kansas. Her first three months were spent in the nursery at Bethel Hospital, Newton, Kansas, while her mother was recuperating from pneumonia. The family moved to LaJunta, Colorado in 1919. She was baptized at age 10 in LaJunta Mennonite Church by Bishops J.A. Heatwole and Allen H. Erb. She attended LaJunta schools, then Hesston Academy. In the fall of 1943 she entered the 3 year program at the Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing in LaJunta. She worked one year at LaJunta Mennonite Hospital; three years at Mennonite Deaconess Hospital, Beatrice, Nebraska; and three years in South Korea, following the war. After her marriage in 1956 to J. Woodrow Ramseyer, she was a homemaker and nurse in Goshen. She met Woodrow in Korea where he was a PAX volunteer under the MCC Relief Program. At the end of the three year term, they were married at the MCC Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, by Don McCammon and Norman Wingert. She is survived by her husband, Woodrow; two daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" (Tim) Robie of Goshen and Sharon (Jon) Sivanich of Mesa, Arizona; a son, Robert Ramseyer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Ian Robie and Emily (Glen) Robie Judd; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Miriam (Bob) Liechty of Berne. She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson; four sisters; and three brothers. Friends may call one hour prior to the 11 a.m., funeral service on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at College Mennonite Church. Pastors Pamela Yoder and Rose Widmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MCC or LaJunta Mennonite School of Nursing Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Mennonite Education Agency, 3415 Benham Ave., Suite 2, Elkhart, IN 46517.
