Lois I. Myers, 73, of North Manchester, formerly of Goshen, died Tuesday afternoon, October 24, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital. She had been ill about a month. She was born on October 25, 1932, in Harrison Township, Elkhart County, to Kenneth E. and Blanche (Stahley) Michael. She married Charles R. Myers on December 11, 1965, in the Goshen City Church of the Brethren. He survives. A longtime resident of the area until 2001, Mrs. Myers taught elementary school in the Concord Schools, Goshen Schools, Arlington, Virginia, and Fairfield Schools before retiring in the early 1990’s. She also served as Christian Education Director for the York First Church of the Brethren in Pennsylvania. A graduate of Manchester College, IUSB and Bethany Seminary, she was a member of the West Manchester Church of the Brethren. She was a former member of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren where she served as Church Board Chair, Witness Commission Chair, Deaconess and choir director. She was involved in the Elkhart County Jail Ministry and in the Church of the Brethren Refugee Resettlement Program, through which she and her husband sponsored Cambodian and Romanian families. Mrs. Myers served as Assistant Chaplain at the Timbercrest Retirement Community, and as chorister and pulpit supply for the North Manchester area. She is survived by her husband, Charles of North Manchester, Indiana; a daughter, Wendy Myers-Garrett of Bloomington, Indiana; two grandsons, Ian (Amelia) and Joshua Garrett of Bloomington; a great-granddaughter, Zoe; and two sisters, Carolyn Michael of Logansport, Indiana, and Ruth Anne Richter of Ligonier, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marilyn DeVault. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 26, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 27, 2006, funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home. Timothy Yoder, licensed minister at Goshen City Church of the Brethren will officiate. A private burial will be held. Memorial contributions may be designated to Heifer Project International or Habitat for Humanity in lieu of flowers.
