Lloyd Lewis Shank

Lloyd L. Shank, 92, of Goshen, died Monday, June 3, 2019, at Green House Village of Goshen.

He was born November 18, 1926 in LaGrange County to Willis and Lena (Prough) Shank.

On September 3, 1959 he married Lorena Lavell “Val” Gazaway.  She died December 4, 2003.

Survivors include daughters, Gail Schelling of Elkhart and Deana (Elvin) Sikes of Corsicana, Texas;  16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and a sister, Eileen Adams, Tucson, Arizona.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; four sons, Ben Hurt, Tommy Cochran, Don Hurtt and David Reavis; a daughter, Evelyn Young and two brothers, Gerald and Lowell “Joe” Shank.

A 1944 graduate of Goshen High School, Mr. Shank served with the U.S. Army in Japan with the 507 Anti-Aircraft Battalion for 19 months during the Korean War.

He was a 50-year member of the U.S. Trotting Association, training and racing standard bred horses.  He was also an avid sports fan, following the Chicago pro teams and the Indiana and Purdue university sports teams.

He was a co-owner of the former Maurer Cemetery Products, Inc. and then Howard and Sons Cement Products. He retired in 1991.

A military graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Violett Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to American Heart Association.
