Lester R. Lung, 90 of Goshen, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Goshen General Hospital. He was born to Raymond and Zelma (Hanshew) Lung on February 5, 1919 in Kociusko County, Indiana. He married Lorene Hartman on October 18, 1982 in Goshen. She survives. Mr. Lung began his law enforcement career working four years with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s department, worked 20 years for the Goshen Police Department and then served 12 years as the chief probation officer for Elkhart County Circuit court. He was a member of the Goshen Masonic Lodge #12, the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Shriners Orak in Michigan City, the Goshen Elks, the Fraternal Order of Police, and a charter member of the American Legion #30 in Goshen. He is survived by two stepdaughters, Judy Cooper of Indianapolis, and Karen (William) Fye of Cincinnati, Ohio; five step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille (Roy) Culp of Goshen, Helen Schreck of Goshen, Susie Warner of Goshen; and one brother, Robert Lung of Goshen. He was preceded in death by one sister, Isabelle Stouder; and two brothers, Dean and Raymond “Buzz” Lung. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Pam Kling of First United Methodist Church of Goshen officiating. Entombment will be at a later date in Washington Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Memorials may be given to Bashor Children’s Home, Goshen.
