Lester I. Culp, 97, of Goshen, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born September 19, 1918 in Tiskiwa, Illinois to Emanuel I. and Cora (Smucker) Culp.
On June 16, 1945 he married Inez Oberholzer in Greencastle, Pennsyslvania.
She survives along with three children, Joetta (Kenneth) Strickler of Patterson, California, Charles (Mary) Culp of Des Moines, Iowa and John (Pam) Culp of Goshen; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Culp of Hesston, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Millard Culp and a sister, Maurine Hess.
From 1942 to 1946 he did his Civilian Public Service in Clear Spring, Maryland.
A longtime Goshen resident, Mr. Culp earned both his bachelor and master’s degrees from University of Illinois and a second master’s degree from Case Western, Ohio. He taught at Hesston College, Kansas and from 1954 to 1987 at Bethany Christian High School.
He was a charter member of Waterford Mennonite Church, Gideon’s International and the National Audubon Society.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and again on Thursday, February 11, 2016, from 10:30 until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Waterford Mennonite Church.
A private family burial will take place in Violett Cemetery.
