Leroy Glenn Yoder, 93, passed away in the early morning hours of September 26th at Greencroft Healthcare where he resided for one month.

He was born on March 16th, 1932, in Garden City, Missouri to Christy P. Yoder and Florence (Schrock) Yoder. In 1958, he married Maxine Mumaw of Dalton, Ohio, who survives.

Also surviving, are 4 children, Kevin (Sharon) Yoder, Elkhart, Indiana; Karla (Bill) Minter, New Paris, Indiana; Kyle (Nancy) Yoder, Elkhart, Indiana; Karen (Phil) Kym, Libertyville, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Sharon) Yoder, Garden City, Missouri; and sisters-in-law Elsie Maiwurm, Marshallville, Ohio; Lucille Shank, Walnut Creek, Ohio; Ferne Mumaw, Dalton, Ohio and Loretta (Roger) Baur, Wooster, Ohio.

Preceding him in death are his parents, sisters Ruby Ann Yoder and Evelyn Zook; brothers-in-law Alvin Zook, Glenn Hartzler, Roger Maiwurm, Norman Shank, Lloyd Mumaw; sisters-in-law Barbara Yoder and Donna Yoder.

Leroy grew up on a farm in rural Missouri, surrounded by extended family and faith community at Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church, where he cultivated a life of service. As a young man, he entered 1-W Service as a hospital surgical orderly in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He then attended Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana, where he met his wife Maxine. After graduating with a business degree, Leroy and Maxine served in Aibonito, Puerto Rico through the Mennonite Board of Missions’ Voluntary Service Program, including Leroy’s employment in the finance office at Aibonito Hospital. After seven years of service, the couple moved with their four children to Elkhart County. Leroy continued serving the church through Mennonite Board of Missions in his role as accountant and assistant director of finance for 30 years. Leroy was a member of Olive Mennonite Church where he volunteered in many capacities including treasurer, elder and Sunday school teacher. Retiring in 1997, he enjoyed farming with sons, traveling with his wife Maxine, attending children and grandchildren’s activities, and volunteering at Church Community Services in Elkhart and Menno-Hof in Shipshewana.

The family is deeply grateful for the many caregivers at Greencroft Rehab and Healthcare, Karing Hearts and Goshen Health Hospice.

Visitation and viewing will be 2:00-4:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday, Oct. 11th at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, IN. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, Oct. 12th, with visitation starting at 1:00 PM, at Greencroft Healthcare, The Meeting House, Goshen, Indiana.  A private family burial will be held at a later date at Olive Cemetery.
