Leon V. Martin

Leon V. Martin, 78, of Goshen, died Thursday morning, August 3, 2006, at his home.   He was born March 27, 1928, in Goshen, to Willis and Nellie (Culp) Martin.   On December 2, 1951, he married Anna Lehman in Goshen.  She survives.   A lifelong resident of the area and a member of Salem Mennonite Church, Mr. Martin owned the Elkhart Farmers Market Restaurant for 20 years, transported gas for Pyrofax and raised chickens.   He is survived by his wife, Anna; four daughters, Charlotte (Calvin) Putnam, Wanda (Linford) Bontrager and Betty (Jacob) Gingerich, all of Goshen, and Sandra (Titus) Martin of Narvon, Pennsylvania; five sons, DeWayne (Beverly) Martin of Goshen, Roger (Linda) Martin of New Market, Virginia, Dana (Sheila) Martin of Haiti, Leroy (Carolyn) Martin of Wakarusa, and Fred (Anna) Martin of Sarasota, Florida; 32 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sister, Vivian Benner of Dayton, Virginia and Matie (David) Layman of Harrisonburg, Virginia; two brothers, Truman (Lois) Martin of Nappanee, Indiana and Eugene (Rosetta) Martin of Silver Lake, Indiana; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Martin of Goshen.   He was preceded in death by a grandson, Trent Martin in 1998; a brother, Marion Martin; and three sisters, Louise Zimmerman, Mildred Martin and Miriam Martin.   Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 6 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.   A 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 7, 2006, funeral service will be conducted at the Salem Mennonite Church, Goshen.  Home Ministry will officiate.  Burial will be in the Salem Mennonite Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be designated to the Christian Witness Missions of New Paris.
