Leon P. Hunter (Hluchota)

Leon P. Hunter (Hluchota), 87, of Elkhart, formerly of Mitchell, died Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his apartment.

He was born June 29, 1933 in Velbivka, Ukraine to Paul and Alexandra Hluchota.

Survivors include five children, Leon (Pamela) Hluchota, Tanya Jones and Sue (Gary) Simmons, all of Goshen, Tina (Jerry) Healey of Granger and Eric (Christine) Hluchota of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Hluchota of Goshen and former wife, Wanda (Rummel) Bialik.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tony Hluchota and granddaughter, Julie Hluchota.

Leon immigrated to the US in 1949 with his parents and two brothers.  He served with the US Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #250, Mitchell.

In October 1953 he began his career with Essex Wire and retired after 40 years.

He loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and golfing.  He also enjoyed shooting the breeze with his friends at the American Legion.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to American Legion Post #250, P.O. Box 154, Mitchell, IN 47446-0154.
