Dr Leo J. Koenig

Dr. Leo J. Koenig, 77, of Elkhart, died at 9:21 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2006, at his home. He had been ill with cancer.              He was born July 4, 1929 in Jamestown, North Dakota to Emanuel and Thelma (Schuster) Koenig. He married Jeannine Lind Druley, July 1, 1955 in Goshen. She passed away February 5, 2005.   Dr. Koenig is survived by four daughters; Laura M. (Jim) Cook, Anne L. (David) Bonek, and Patricia Susan Koenig, all of Elkhart, and Joan C. Koenig of Houston, Texas, and one son; Jeffrey S. (Ben Murray-Oates) Koenig of Elkhart.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Adam Wilburn, Aleah Wilburn, Brittany Kauffman, John Kauffman, Ariah Wilburn, Scott Kauffman, and Jacob Bonek.   Dr. Koenig was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lavonne Janowski.   Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where services will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Fookes of the Dunlap United Methodist Church, where Dr. Koenig had been a long time member.   Burial will take place at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.  Pallbearers will be Jeff Koenig, Adam Wilburn, John Kauffman, David Bonek, Mike Janowski, and John Neff.   Dr. Koenig graduated from Purdue University in West Layfayette, Indiana. He then went to Indianapolis to the Indiana University Dental School.  He was also called away to the Korean War where he served as a medic in the U. S. Army.   Dr. Koenig practiced family dentistry for 48 years in Dunlap, Indiana.   He was a loving husband to his wife Jeannine for 50 years, and a loving father and grandfather.   Memorials may be made to Goshen Care at Home/Hospice.
