Lavon Lucille Steward

LaVon Lucille Steward, 96, of Wakarusa, and formerly of Goshen, died early Tuesday morning, July 3, 2007, at Miller’s Merry Manor where she had lived the past four years.   She was born in New Paris on July 5, 1910, to Charles and Laura (Coy) Lutes.  She married Paul J. Steward on August 22, 1953, in Goshen.  He preceded her on August 1, 1977.   A lifelong resident of the area, Mrs. Steward, worked as a bookkeeper/clerk at New Paris Lumber Company, Home Lumber Company and Roberts Jewelers before retiring in 1973.   She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W., DAV Women’s Auxiliary; and a charter member of The Women of the Moose.   Friends will be received 9:30 to 11 a.m., Friday, July 6, at the funeral home.   An 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2007, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor Ed Fritz of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Research, Chicago.
