Lavern E. Becher, 84, of New Paris, died at his daughter's home Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012, after a short illness. He was born May 26, 1927 in New Carlisle to George Jacob Edward and Hulda (Berron) Becher. He married Charlotte R. Simison June 15, 1951 in Woodland. She died December 20, 2001. He is survived by three daughters, Pamela (David) Pollock of Milford, Susan Becher of Goshen and Sharon R. (Douglas) Delegrange of Goshen; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Starner of Claypool and Lura Limerick of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Roger Becher in 2003; three brothers, Richard, Murlin and Lewis Becher; and a sister, Mary Freehauf. A graduate of Madison High School, he served with the US Army after World War II in Germany and Austria. A New Paris resident since 1961, Mr. Becher worked as a foreman at Liberty Homes, Syracuse, until retiring in 1989. After retirement he delivered The Paper in Milford. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Woodland, and the American Legion. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 7, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 8, 2012, funeral service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 15697 New Road, (Woodland), Mishawaka. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Woodland. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
