Laura Louise Haney

June 28, 1937 — February 13, 2017

Laura L. Haney, 79, of Goshen, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at her home surrounded by loving family members and supported by Goshen Home Care and Hospice.

She was born June 28, 1937 in Akron to Leo and Mary (Ball) Adams.

On May 8, 1957 she married Leslie E. “Doc” or “Bugs” Haney in Muncie.

He survives along with two daughters, Susan M. Haney, M.D. of Fort Collins, Colorado and Mary L. (Mark) Brookins of New Paris; three sons, Daniel J. (Kim) Haney of Shipshewana, Steve E. (Michelle) Haney of Palmer, Alaska and David L. (Roger Klorese) Haney of Seattle, Washington; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Howard W. (Kathy) Adams of Houston, Texas and Thomas W. (Becky) Adams of Muncie and a sister-in-law, Paula Adams of Elkhart.

She was preceded by her parents and a brother, Donald L. Adams.

A Goshen resident since 1962, Laura graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1955 and Methodist School of Nursing, Indianapolis in 1958.  She worked as a registered nurse at Goshen Hospital and started home health care in Goshen.

Laura was a servant in her community.  She was a cub scout den mother, 4-H leader and Saddle Club project leader.  She gave numerous riding lessons to both youth and adults and helped launch the Elkhart County 4-H horse camp that continues today.  In more recent years she was integrally involved with the Loveway therapeutic riding program and devoted to training the horses.  Laura helped feed countless people through the T.G.I.W. Program at First United Methodist Church, always serving with a smile.  She was the first person to greet new neighbors and bring cinnamon rolls or goodies to those who had a need.  She was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed making gingerbread houses and cookies with her grandchildren.  While Laura will be missed, her legacy of service will live on because of the impact she had on others.

Friends may call Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and again Wednesday one hour prior to the 10:30 funeral service at First United Methodist Church, Goshen.  Pastor Ed Fritz will officiate.

Cremation will follow the service and burial will be at a later date in Akron Cemetery, Akron.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Loveway, Bashor Home or First United Methodist Church.
