Larry Duane Gadson, 83, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Goshen, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Hawthorn Landing at Heritage Community of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
He was born December 16, 1941, in Constantine, Michigan to George Jr. and Nora (Hesha) Gadson. He moved to Goshen in 1965.
Larry married Ida Mae (Lott) Hollinger, August 20, 1974 in Goshen. She died July 3, 1996. He later married Nancy C. (Sharp) Adams in September 1997. She passed away on March 5, 2014.
Surviving are step-children Evening Star (Jerry) Garrett, Sparta, Tennessee, and Steven L. Hollinger, West Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Karen Gadson, Kalamazoo, and step-brother, Kenneth (Alvera) Clark, Bloomington.
Preceding Larry in death were his former wives, parents, step-mother Winifred (Moore) Gadson, a baby brother, and step-brother, Jon Clark.
Raised by his father and stepmother, he grew up on the family farm and graduated from Shipshewana Scott High School, class of 1960. He then joined the Navy in November of 1960 and served on the USS Lexington and was honorably discharged four years later. Larry worked for Goshen Community Schools for 31 years, becoming the head of the maintenance department, and later worked at Oakwood Inn in Syracuse.
Visitation will take place on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. At noon a designated time of sharing will begin.
Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery with military honors.
Memorial gifts in Larry’s honor may be directed to Greencroft Foundation or Heritage Community of Kalamazoo.
