Larry Dean Berkey

Larry Dean Berkey, 80, died on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at IU Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born August 21, 1945 in Goshen to William Junior and Esther Pauline (Fox) Berkey.

He is survived by three sons, Dr., Scott Tracy Berkey of Fort Wayne, Mark Wade (Katie) Berkey of Fort Wayne and Eric Dustin (Sarah) Berkey of Elkhart; their mother, Patsy (Berkey) Berkey; seven grandchildren, Jessica 29, Cassandra 27, Abigail 23, Ashton 19, Zoë 22, Damian 21 and Anna 19; six great-grandchildren, Alvaro, Noah, Liam, Mateo, Ruby and Oliver; two brothers, Calvin and Rick Berkey; and an uncle, Phillip Chizum, Sr.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Berkey.

During his working career Larry owned and operated a trucking company. He was also a skilled craftsman, as demonstrated by the fact that he personally built his family home and completed the distinctive stonework at Das Dutchman Essenhaus.

A private graveside service will be taking place at Cornell Cemetery, Middlebury.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Yoder-Culp Funeral Home to offset the cost of the funeral.
