Lara M. Honderich, 93, formerly of East Kercher Road, Goshen, died Sunday night, December 4, 2011, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing. She was born in Nappanee March 17, 1918 to the late Roy and Pearl (Hochstetler) Strauss. She married Glen E. Honderich October 13, 1940 in Nappanee. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Gretchen (Clarence) Yoder of Goshen, and Ann (Mark) Beyers of Fithian, Illinois; two sons, Nevin (Judy) Honderich and Martin (Carol) Honderich, both of Goshen; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Walsh of Middlebury and Jane (Henry) Gehman, Coopersburg, Penn.; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Honderich Griffin, Goshen. She was preceded in death by a son, David Honderich; a granddaughter; three sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Jean Phillips and Betty Weldy; and a brother, Lyle Strauss. A 43 year cancer survivor, Mrs. Honderich was a member of Clinton Brick Mennonite Church. A graduate of Goshen College and Ball State University, she taught elementary art in the Fairfield School System. She was a member of the Elkhart City and State Retired Teachers' Association. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Clinton Brick Cemetery for burial. An 11:00 a.m. memorial service will follow at Clinton Brick Mennonite Church, Goshen. Retired Pastor Ron Kennel will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Clinton Brick Mennonite Church, Goshen College or Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary.
