Lamar C. Paflas, 89 of Goshen, died Saturday morning, July 27, 2013 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, where he was transferred after being involved in a traffic accident. Lamar was born September 17, 1923 in Goshen to Nicholas G. and Leona (Long) Paflas. He started working at the Olympia Candy Kitchen for his father at age 10. February 12, 1943 he married Margaret Ann Hickey. Margaret died January 3, 1976. On October 27, 1976 Lamar married Margaret Ann "Peg" Hoke Simpson. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Kathy (Kare) Andersen, of Syracuse; two step-daughters, Ginger Miller and Shelly Simpson, both of Goshen; a daughter- in- law, Jan Paflas, of Ft. Wayne; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Lamar was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Daniel Paflas in 1999, and a grandson, Douglas Johnston in 2011. Lamar was owner/ operator of the Olympia for a number of years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Goshen since 1943, and a charter member of Maplecrest Country Club, where he loved to golf. He served during WW II in the U.S. Army Aircorp in the Pacific in Okinawa, and belonged to the American Legion Post #30 and the VFW Post #985. There will be no visitation. A private family burial will take place at Violett Cemetery and a public memorial service will be held at a later date.
