LaMar D. Leer, 91, of Elkhart and formerly of Goshen, died Friday evening, July 23, 2010, at Elkhart General Hospital. He had been ill since Wednesday morning. He was born July 24, 1918 in Goshen, to the last W. Benjamin and Mamie E. (Cripe) Leer. He married DeLorus G. Garber on September 7, 1940 in Goshen. She died January 27, 2005. He is survived by a son, Dr. Ronald W. (Gwen) Leer of Kendalville; a daughter, Patricia (Daniel Haeb) Newton of Elkhart; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, J. Dean Leer in 2006. A lifelong Goshen resident, Mr. Leer graduated from Goshen High School in 1936, and served during World War II with the Army Aircorp. He worked as a salesman for Middlebury Church Furniture; as a personnel manager at Mogul Rubber; as a purchasing agent for Consolidated Metal and drove motor homes and vans for 12 years. He was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren. Friends may call 11 to 1 Tuesday, July 27, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 1:30 p.m., funeral service will be conducted. Pastor Bev Weaver of Goshen City Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Osceola American Legion Post #308. Memorials may be given to Goshen City Church of the Brethren.
