Lamar Garber, 86, of Goshen, died late Thursday morning, October 13, 2011, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He was born November 23, 1924 in Goshen to the late Earl and Bertha (Kauffman) Garber. He married Delores Pletcher December 24, 1946 in Goshen. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Jean (Larry) Cripe, Goshen; three sons, Lyle (Connie) Garber, Goshen, Kermit (Debra) Garber, New Paris, and Kevin (Cheryl) Garber, Avon; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a sister, Donnabelle (Clair) Hoover; and three brothers, Maurice Garber, Goshen, Robert (Olene) Garber, Bristol, and Marion (Florence) Garber, Goshen. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Miller and a twin sister, Betty Betzelberger. A lifetime Goshen resident, Mr. Garber worked at Starcraft, drove truck for New Paris creamery and clerked at Hodson's Ace Hardware. He also served as custodian at Clinton Brick Mennonite Church where he attended for more than 30 years. More recently he had attended Maple City Chapel. Mr. Garber made homemade icecream for Goshen Farms and Dairy. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, October 15, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 16, 2011, funeral service will be conducted at Maple City Chapel, Goshen. Pastor Mel Shetler, Maple City Chapel and grandson, Rev. Scott Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Clinton Brick Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children or American Diabetes Association.
