Klay K. Shorthouse, 55, of Elkhart, died Thursday night, October 27, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, following a four year wait for a heart transplant.
He was born March 1, 1961 in Elkhart to Kennon and Linda (Clementz) Shorthouse.
His mother survives along with two sisters, Kenda Shorthouse of Elkhart and Kathy (Randy) Fackelman of Goshen; friend, Patti Zinn of Edwardsburg, Michigan; nieces, Nicole, Maddie, Gracie and Sami Fackelman; and beloved canine companion, Jasper.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Klay was a 1979 Concord graduate, where he competed as a swimmer in the breaststroke, and attended Sugar Grove Church. He received his college degree in 1983 from Ball State University.
He lived in Marietta, Georgia for 30 years before returning to Elkhart in 2011. He worked as a television producer and director of photography, producing hunting and fishing shows. He also worked for CNN and In Touch Ministries in camera editing.
An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed his time as a volunteer leader for Young Life Ministries for more than 20 years.
Friends will be received Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. An 11 a.m. memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the funeral home.
Cremation will take place with burial at Violett Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be directed to St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
