Kennon R. Shorthouse, 81, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Elkhart General Hospital after a six month illness.
He was born September 20, 1934 in Goshen to Ray B. and Marie (Yoder) Shorthouse.
He married Linda J. Clementz April 3, 1960 in Elkhart.
She survives along with two daughters, Kenda Shorthouse of Elkhart and Kathy (Randy) Fackelman of Goshen; a son, Klay K. Shorthouse of Elkhart; four granddaughters, Nicole, Madison, Gracie and Sami Fackelman; a brother, Chris D. Shorthouse of Goshen; and dear friends, Steve and Jean Lynn, Tony Lynn and April (Joe) Pressler.
A 1953 graduate of Goshen High School, he served with the U.S. Army for six years. An avid fisherman, he was a life member of BASS (Bass Anglers Sportsman Society) and a former member of Elkhart County Bassmasters. As a young man he drove stock cars at New Paris Speedway. A longtime bowler, he was a loyal Notre Dame fan.
He worked as a mason for Rock Masonry for 30 years and for the Elkhart County Highway Department for 13 years until retiring in 1999. Following retirement he was a tour guide for Amish Acres.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Life Center, Goshen.
Friends may call Thursday, February 18, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
