Kenneth Franklyn Ellington, III, 58, of Goshen, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, October 27, 2009, in Sacramento, California. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on August 2, 1951, to the late Kenneth Franklyn Ellington, Jr. and Wilma Leonard Ellington of Greensboro, North Carolina. He married Susan Elma Pell on July 15, 1972 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Ellington (James) Landreau of Alpharetta, Georgia and Kendra Ellington (Aaron) Nafziger of Goshen; a granddaughter; and a brother, Steven (Cynthia) Ellington of Greensboro, North Carolina. A graduate of Elon College and Furman University, Mr. Ellington taught orchestra and served as Associate Director of Arts Education and Student Activities in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He also worked with Conn-Selmar in Elkhart; Super-Sensitive Musical String Company in Sarasota, Florida,; Summerhays Music Company in Salt Lake City, Utah; Ellington Strings, LLC; and Buffet Crampon USA Inc. During his career he remained active as a program evaluator, festival and contest adjudicator, guest conductor, string clinician, consultant to instrumental music programs; and as a clinician for numerous teacher workshops on orchestra program development and implementation throughout the nation. He was an avid reader and loved classic and science fiction movies. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and playing golf. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, October 30, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 31, 2009. Pastor Brenda Sawatzky Paetkau will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Elon University School of Music, 100 Campus Dr., Elon, NC 27244-2010.
