Kenneth Devon Miller, 89, died on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 at Courtyard Healthcare Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born Feb. 15, 1928 to Irwin and Mildred (Yoder) Miller in Shipshewana, where he grew up on the family farm. He married Bertha P. Neufeld on June 7, 1952. They were married for 64 years. She preceded him in death Sept. 28, 2016.
Ken was a graduate of Goshen College and Indiana University School of Medicine. He was a family practice doctor and served the Woodburn community for 40 years. He was an active member of Maplewood Mennonite Church in Fort Wayne for many years. After he retired, Ken and Bertha moved to Goshen where he became an active member of Silverwood Mennonite Church. Ken enjoyed sports, especially running, golf, and basketball. He passed down his love of Indiana basketball to his children and grandchildren. He was often dressed in IU gear at Courtyard.
Ken is survived by his five children, Berry (Robin) Miller, Angola, Phil (Judy) Miller, Atlanta, GA, Becky (Jonathan) Nussbaum, Union, MI, Bonnie (Mike) Gingrich, Elkhart and Gordon (Tonya) Miller, Leo; 16 grandchildren, Matthew Miller, Kristi Murphy, Andrew Miller, Zach Miller, Allison Kizziar, Josh Miller, Katelyn Nussbaum, Erin Beeker, Olivia Burkholder, Amy Kreider, Ryan Gingrich, Jacob Gingrich, Lauren Gingrich, Kienan Miller, Kiana Miller, and Korban Miller; 12 great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Waneta Miller, Betty (Vernon) Roth, Jim Miller, Sue Byler, and Joan Buerge. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers Ernest Miller and Richard Miller.
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. A celebration service of Ken's life will be held at North Goshen Mennonite Church, 501 N. 8th St, Goshen on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. with viewing one hour prior. Cremation will follow the service.
Memorials may be given to Mennonite Disaster Service.
The family would especially like to thank the Courtyard staff for their love and care for "Doc" for the past six years.
