Keith B. Miller

July 12, 1927 — June 8, 2025

Elkhart

Keith B. Miller, 97, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Hubbard Hill Healthcare.

He was born July 12, 1927 in Nappanee to Ralph and Flossa (Berlin) Miller.

On September 19, 1953 he married Maryln “June” Pfeiffer in Nappanee. She died May 27, 2014.

Survivors include four children, Sheryl (Gary) Bauer, of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Kentlin (Pat) Miller and Jeri (Bill) Vincent both of Durham, North Carolina, and Lisa (John) Nussbaum of Bristol; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Pfeiffer.

Keith was an accountant/controller in industry for more than 40 years.  While he loved accounting and finance, he enjoyed mentoring others along the way, imparting wisdom he had gained through experience.  He reveled in the success of others and was always ready to offer an encouraging word.  Keith was himself a lifelong learner and encouraged his children and colleagues to pursue their education.

Keith had a humble, servant’s heart.  He was a long-time member of Dunlap United Methodist Church.  Through the years, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels, SCORE, served as Chairman of Elkhart County Red Cross, and was active in the Lions Club.  He was always ready to lend a helping hand in giving back to his community.

Throughout his retirement, Keith enjoyed various hobbies including travel, golf, coffee time, and playing cards with a group of buddies.   All of those things were really just vehicles for what was most important to him: cultivating relationships.  Keith loved to meet new people and learn their stories.  He enjoyed inviting conversation, debating a topic and hearing others’ perspectives and opinions – but ultimately valued preserving the friendship over “winning the argument”.   He consistently put others needs and interests ahead of his own, being frugal with his own needs but giving generously to others.

Keith was a gentle, kind-hearted man who was dearly loved by his family and many friends.  He loved spending time with his family.  Among his favorite memories were those spent on family vacations in Sanibel Island, Florida and traveling through state and national parks.   Keith liked to say he was a “one-percenter” as he was a rare individual who made it to age 97.   He was blessed to still have his mental faculties until his last days, still balancing his own checkbook and doing his daily Wordle game.  He meticulously kept a daily journal throughout his lifetime that as become a record of the family history.

More importantly, Keith genuinely loved God and his family.  Even though cancer left him tired and worn, often with crippling pain, he never lost his faith.  He marveled and was humbled at all the ways that God continued to bless him even to his last days.  When faced with an awful diagnosis, he accepted it with grace.   He was ready to take his final rest and meet the embrace of his Lord and Savior in his Heavenly Home.  His life was a testament to God’s love and goodness, even in the midst of adversity and suffering.  God met him in those moments with grace and peace.
