Kathryn L. Stalter, 88 of Goshen died at 5:15 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at Goshen General Hospital. She was born to Enos and Ruth (Lehman) Mumaw on December 3, 1920 in Elkhart County. She married John Stalter on June 22, 1941. He survives. Mrs. Stalter graduated from Concord High School and attended Goshen College, majoring in music and social studies. In addition to her household duties, Kathryn found time to become a member of the Elkhart Symphony Auxiliary. She co-edited a cook book for the auxiliary. She also was a member of the Oaklawn Auxiliary, serving for 25 years. She took organ lessons and became the organist for Southside Fellowship. She and her husband, John were charter members of the Fellowship. In 1992 they moved to a retirement community in Goshen. While there she pursued her hobby of knotting comforters and during a period of several years processed in excess of 100 comforters, donating them to the Mennonite Central Committee. She also never failed to send birthday cards to all her nieces and nephews, their children and many friends. When Kathryn was at home there was always music in the house. She believed the motto which hung in the living room, “Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday live”. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Ann (Mitch) Najar of Goshen, and Jane Cross (David) of Albany, Oregon; one son, Sanford C. (Lyndeg) Stalter of Cornwall Bridge, Connecticut; one grandson, Daniel Stalter;  two sisters, Winifred E. (Rev. Elmer) Wall of Goshen and Frances R. (Dr. G. Weldon) Troyer of Goshen. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church. An 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 26, 2009 memorial service will be conducted at College Mennonite Church with Rev. Rosemary Widmer officiating.   A private family graveside service in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart will precede the memorial service. Memorials may be given to Mennonite Central Committee.
