Kathryn M. Prough, 96, of Goshen, passed away Saturday morning May 18, 2013 at Greencroft Gables Healthcare. She was born August 21, 1916 in Midland, Michigan, to Menno D. and Laura (Yoder) Miller. On August 25, 1956 she married Clifford C. Prough, in Three Rivers, Michigan. He died October 29, 2010. She is survived by a sister, Fran "Fannie" Lengacher, of Sarasota, Florida, a half-brother, Floyd (Dorothy) Helmuth, of Tyler, Texas; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters, Wilma Rogers, Sarah Stark, Laura Martin, and Clara Helmuth; and four brothers, Sam, Clarence, William and Alvin Miller. Mrs. Prough was a lifetime area resident and member of First Baptist Church, Goshen, and worked for many years at Fiedeke Dry Cleaners. She enjoyed reading, especially the works of Beverly Lewis; doing crossword puzzles; and knitting dishcloths for family and friends. Kathryn's family will remember her as a fierce competitor at many board and card games, particularly canasta. She was very active in her younger years with women's bowling leagues and thoroughly enjoyed a good round of golf. A favorite delight was driving with her husband to northern Michigan to hunt for morel mushrooms. She was also a devoted dog lover, doting on a number of favorite pets through the years. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday May 21, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m. Wednesday May 22, 2013 funeral will be held. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Greencroft Endowment Foundation.
