Kathleen Karen Janssen, 71, of Goshen passed away peacefully April 16, 2024 after living with renal disease for many years.
She was born August 8, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania to Charles and Betty Hernley.
She met the love of her life, Gail Janssen, at Goshen College. They married on April 27, 1974 at College Mennonite Church and settled in Goshen for the next 50 years together.
Kathi is survived by her husband; two children, Geoffrey (Tara Eary) Janssen of Bristol and Aimee (Jon) Weishaupt of Goshen; and three grandchildren, Rylee, Isaiah, and Isabelle.
Also surviving are her six siblings, Steve (Tammy) Hernley of LaGrange, Georgia, Pam (Bob) Reedy of Goshen, Cindy (Bob) Clayton of New Paris, Doug (Gwen) Hernley of Goshen, Jeff (Lisa)Hernley of Milford and Ron Hernley of McMinnville, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
Kathi worked at Provident Bookstore, Coachmen industries, and Essenhaus all while loving her family. She spent many years teaching Sunday school and Bible School at Silverwood Mennonite Church and 8th Street Mennonite Church where she shared Jesus with many children over the years.
Family has always been important to Kathi whether it be her siblings and their children, her husband and children or her grandchildren. She knew how to make time with all of them special. She was a lover of music, theater, baking, and making holidays a time that were not forgotten.
Visitation will take place Sunday, April 21 from 5-8pm at Silverwood Mennonite Church. A memorial service will take place on Monday, April 22 at 11am at Silverwood Mennonite Church.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Kidney Fund.
