Katherine Eugenia Rassi

Mrs. Katherine "Katie" Eugenia Rassi, of Goshen, 93, passed away Wednesday morning, April 11, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare. She was born March 6, 1919 to Earl and Catherine (Wiley) Hamman in North Baltimore, Ohio. She married Leonard Joshua Rassi March 19, 1947 at the home of Rev. Elias Sarber in Elkhart County. He died July 27, 1992. Katherine was a loving mother and homemaker for her children who survive, Gary L. (Juanita) Rassi of Elkhart, Lamar E. (Gale) Rassi of Elkhart and Kevin E. Rassi of Goshen; four grandchildren, Vanessa and Valli Rassi, Valia (Joel) Warren, and Joshua (Elizabeth) Rassi, who are expecting her first great-granddaughter in July. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Hamman Rassi and two brothers, James Hammon, in 1986, and Louis Hammon, in 2008. She grew up on her parents' farm located in rural Syracuse and attended Milford High School where she graduated in 1935. During World War II she was a periscope tester and timekeeper at Penn Electric. In 1948 she was involved in a severe auto accident that claimed the life of her sister, Mary Louise. After she recovered from the accident Katherine worked briefly as a clerk for Goshen City Light and Water. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be conducted at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
