Kare Andersen

March 22, 1938 — October 11, 2017

Kare Andersen, 79, Syracuse, died Wednesday, October 11, at Goshen Hospital.


He was born March 22, 1938 in Oslo, Norway to Frank Willy and Margit (Sørum) Andersen.


On June 20, 1976 he married Kathy A. Paflas in Goshen.


She survives along with children, Hege (Ernie) Andersen-Szabo, Richmond, Illinois, Stein Andersen, Elgin, Illinois, Jason Malcolm, Seattle, Washington, Kare (Casey) Andersen, Goshen and Scott Johnston, Syracuse; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kari Galler, Clayton, California.


He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Douglas Johnston.

Kare received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Michigan Technological University, Houghton, Michigan in 1960 and his M.B.A. from Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois in 1971.  His work history includes; Vickers, Inc., Detroit, Michigan as an aerospace division engineer, designing hydraulic pumps and motors; Chicago Rawhide Manufacturing Company, C.R. Industries as Manager of their Application Engineering Group, and in 1961 he took over the Manufacturing Engineering Group where he later became Director of New Ventures, being responsible for new investments in the international market.


He moved to Elkhart in 1974 as general manager for Mogul Rubber.  He was later named president of Mogul Rubber and its sister company Atlantic India Rubber, Chicago, Illinois.  In 1992 he took a job with T & M Rubber, Inc., Goshen where he was vice-president of Marketing and Sales and Operations Manager.


Kare may be best known locally for owning the Olympia Candy Kitchen, Goshen with his wife Kathy.


He enjoyed traveling, especially the western United States; snow skiing with family; attending Notre Dame Football games; watching any soccer game; building anything out of wood; and being out on the lake in his boat.


According to his wishes cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.


A memorial service will be conducted Wed., Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.
