Justin Earl McLallin, 95, of Kokomo and a former resident of Greencroft in Goshen, went to be with Jesus Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Howard Regional Health System. He was born February 10, 1917, in Albion to the late Lawrence and Lura (Steller) McLallin. He married Barbara Ann Adams March 9, 1947 in Ligonier. She died January 30, 1984. On July 6, 1985 he married Orpha (Haarer) Muhlnickel in Kimmell. She died February 5, 2000. He is survived by a son, Kerry (Carolee) McLallin of Kokomo; a daughter, Ann (William) Wheat of Dublin, Ohio; two step-daughters, Margaret (Carmon) Cripe of Middlebury and Betty Muhlnickel of Goshen; a step-son, Don (Beth) Muhlnickel of Middlebury; three grandchildren, Allison (Patrick) Cooke, Matthew Wheat and Benjamin (Jillian) Wheat; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Emma Wheat; two sisters, Bonita (J.D.) Geiger of North Webster, and Joan Spencer of Indianapolis; and a brother, Kenneth "Lindy" McLallin of Wolcottville. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Patricia McLallin. A longtime resident of Noble and Elkhart Counties, Mr. McLallin was a World War II veteran, serving with the 76th Artillery Battalion in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the American Legion Post #243 in Ligonier for more than 60 years. A member of the Sparta United Church of Christ, he farmed in the Cromwell area many years. He also worked as a letter carrier on the north side of Ligonier for 20 years, walking 11 miles each day. A shuffleboard champion in Florida, he also had an active interest in cars and enjoyed catching bluegill on Engle Lake. He was a loving and supportive husband to both Barbara and Orpha and a fun grandpa to his grandchildren. Friends may call 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 19, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012, funeral service will be conducted. Rev. Richard Rensner, family friend, will officiate. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sparta United Church of Christ or to The American Diabetes Association.
