June 11, 1922 — May 5, 2010

June E. Barghahn, 87, of Goshen, died early Wednesday morning, May 5, 2010, at her home. She had been in failing health the last six months. She was born on June 11, 1922 in Goshen to George and Bertha (Hartman) Culp. On May 13, 1942, she married Virgil L. Barghahn.  He died February 13, 2002. A lifelong Goshen resident and homemaker, she worked 17 years for Coca Cola Company in Goshen.  She was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren where she served the church in many capacities, including deaconess.  She was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. A 1940 graduate of Goshen High School, she earned a G letter sweater at age 70 for her state records in swimming.  She belonged to Greater Masters Swimming Club of Indiana where she had several swimming records.  She swam the mile in the Great Race several times and the 1000 yard swim in her 70’s.  In addition to swimming she enjoyed making comforters. She is survived by two sons, Ben (Peggy) Barghahn of  Wayland, Michigan, and Randy (Peggy) Barghahn of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Jenna Barghahn, Katie Barghahn Keil, Laura Johnson, and Paul and Matt Barghahn; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gloria (Kenneth) Clark and Barbara (LaRoy) Grooms, both of Goshen; and a brother, Robert (Mary) Culp of Goshen. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Wolfe, and four brothers, Romaine, Wilbur, Loyal and George Culp, Jr. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where a 10 a.m., Saturday, May 8, funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Steve Norton of Goshen City Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Goshen City Church of the Brethren or Goshen Salvation Army.
