Judith “Judy” Anne (Gregory) Gill, 83, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023.
She was born September 29, 1940 in Cook County, Illinois to Raymond Giles and Florence Lennea (Strand) Gregory.
On July 27, 1985 she married Dennis B. Gill in the St. James Episcopal Church, Goshen. He died December 23, 2014.
Judy is survived by a daughter, Julie (John) Hilliard of Potrerillos, Panama; a son, Greg (Baybie) Scudder of San Bernadino, California; four step-children, Jeff Gill, Julie (Johnny) Gill Poehler, Janelle (Matt) Gill Hohimer and Jamie (Becky) Gill; three grandchildren, Brock, Nicholas and Robert; 11 step-grandchildren, Matt, Austin, Adam, Chelsea, Tony, Kedra, Ryan, Tessa, Addie, Morgan and Samantha; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Brinklow of Traverse City, Michigan; four nieces, Judi K. Hunter, Lisa Hunter, Lee Ann Scherzinger and Dianne Newbery; and three nephews, Doug, David and Steve Brinklow.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Linda K. Arbogast.
An area resident since the late 1960’s, Mrs. Gill worked as an assistant vice president of St. Joseph Valley Bank and as customer service manager of Dumoore Office Furniture.
Judy graduated from Fayetteville High School, Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1958 and earned an Associate Degree in Banking at The American Institute of Banking in 1969.
Mrs. Gill was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and served on the altar guild. She was a court appointed special advocate (CASA) with Child and Parent Services (CAPS) and visited many schools and hospitals with Becky, her registered therapy dog. She was also a regular blood donor with the American Red Cross, achieving the 10 gallon milestone.
Friends may visit with the family Monday, November 20, 2023, from 12, noon until the 2 p.m. funeral mass at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 226 W. Lexington Ave., Elkhart. Rev. Terri Peterson will officiate.
A private graveside service will be held at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart Salvation Army or St. John’s Episcopal Church Food Pantry, Elkhart, Indiana.
