Juanita B. Thompson, 84, of South Bend, died Saturday, October 17, 2020.

She was born March 13, 1936 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan and grew up in Wooster, Ohio.

Juanita was a very happy transplant to warm Arizona from the 1960s. She was a high risk labor and delivery nurse by profession. In her fifties she fulfilled a lifelong dream and graduated from California Institute of the Arts with a degree in Set Design. In her sixties she lived with her son-in-law, daughter and grandchildren in California and Japan where she enjoyed church activities, learning Japanese and home parties. In her seventies she moved back to Arizona and enjoyed stained glass activities, friendships and being a deacon at Faith Presbyterian Church. In her eighties she moved to Indiana to be close to family and enjoyed the support of PACE and the assisted living home where she experienced compassionate care.

Juanita is survived by her son-in-law and daughter, Mike and Teresa Thompson Sherrill, and her three grandchildren, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Sophia. Grandma Juanita was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader and being able to go to their events in person or by FB messenger was her greatest delight! We will greatly miss her wisdom, support, and listening ear. Her favorite scripture verse was Jeremiah 29:11 - For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.

She was preceded in death by parents Jacob and Dona Martin; spouse Charles Thompson; siblings Rev. Jim Martin, Mary Daughterty, Ellen McIntire and Bob Martin; and grandson, Micah Sherrill.

A Celebration of Life will be held at East Goshen Mennonite Church at a later date.
