Joyce Alene Spangler, 74, of Goshen, died early Monday morning, March 3, 2014, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. She was born September 7, 1939 in Edinburgh. She is survived by two daughters, Laurel Anne Isle and Marta Bardonner, both of Winona Lake; two grandchildren, Matthew Scott (Lindsey) Henry, of Noblesville, and Brianna Nichole Bardonner, of Richmond, Virginia; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Holland, of Noblesville; a brother, Everett R. Burton, of Yorktown, Virginia; and her ex-husband, James G. Bergdoll, of Richmond. She was preceded in death by her foster parents, Gail Meranda and Hestella F. (Ullom) Meranda Taylor and her husband, Russell R. Spangler. Ms. Spangler moved to Goshen seven years ago from Madison. She graduated from DeSoto High School in 1958 and worked as a receptionist for The Care Group LLC, Indianapolis and as office manager for Dr. Larry G. Cole, Yorktown before retiring in 1992. She received the Nana of the Year award for 30 years, from 1985 to 2014. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon, Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Maxville, at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
